Daniel and Birgit (who goes by B) got in touch with me a few days after Valentine’s Day this year to inquire about photographing their low-key downtown Wilmington wedding. They only wanted two hours of coverage, and I was happy to oblige! Since we only had two hours to get the images they’ll be looking at for the rest of their lives, I knew I had to bring my A game.
B is from the Netherlands! And she was in the process of getting her engagement visa a few weeks before the wedding. Everything was riding on her approval, otherwise they would have to postpone the special day! Luckily her request went through and on March 28th Danny + B said “I do”.
We met for coffee two days before the wedding, and discussed specific shot ideas. My goal was to make them feel comfortable, and confident that we would be able to get the images they wanted in a small time frame. I planned out a shot list that night, and I made a Pinterest board specifically for a downtown/urban setting. I’ve found that preparation is such a huge part of my job, there is no way I can ever shoot a wedding without having a list of ideas handy. When there is a time crunch, I HAVE TO know what to do next. There’s no room for standing around frantically trying to think of creative ideas.
Danny + B got married in the beautiful New Hanover County Courthouse building.
They have a very classic looking grand staircase inside the lobby with a gigantic bay window where the ceremony takes place. We took family photos across the street near the Thalian Hall building. The Azaleas were just starting to bloom, and it was a beautiful day outside for photographs.
After family photos Danny, B, and my girlfriend/assistant Katie all hopped into my car and drove down to the Wilmington Riverwalk. We parked near Chandler’s Wharf and headed towards the end of the walkway. With the bridge as the background, I had Danny + B embrace each other and take in the fact that they’re now married!
For the next hour we wandered around downtown Wilmington getting great shots of the newlyweds. Check them out below!
